With the paintball community spread across various types of play, those at Fun on the Run Paintball Park recently offered a nostalgic take Feb. 24.

Comprised of both pump and magazine fed “Magfed” markers, players harkened back to the roots of paintball with a slower more methodical game. Just as it sounds, pump markers require the user to manually cock the marker between each shot, thus keeping the rate of fire much lower than newer mechanical and electronic markers. Similarly, the users of Magfed markers have to endure an additional limitation on the amount of paint they have available, as well as a limited rate of fire.

Though both types of play have many fans in the community, here in North Texas the availability for pump and Magfed only players to get together had been lacking as of late. Therefore, when Fun on the Run Paintball Park began to advertise such an event, players across the metroplex were excited for the chance to compete against one another.

David Creamer, Director of Operations at Fun on the Run, was excited to bring this event to a realization and happy with the turnout of players.

“I’m excited to see the amount of interest in this style of play, and I am curious about how many pump and Magfed players are in the Dallas/Fort Worth area,” Creamer said.

Furthermore, Creamer noted that players were overjoyed with the event as a whole and were looking forward to the next one.

Taking a break from tournament paintball, PPS-SFO players Travis Miller and Arturo Garcia both agreed that the event went really well.

“I really liked it and it had a great turnout for the first attempt,” Miller said. “If we can create a buzz about this style of play and how fun it is we can definitely bring more players in.”

“I think it went well, it would be cool if they had at least one event a month,” Garcia said.

Moving forward, Creamer also noted that in the future Fun on the Run will continue to offer pump and Magfed games, as well as the possible introduction of a mechanical only event.

“A mechanical only day is a possibility for the future,” Creamer said. “We really have to work on spacing between other styles of play, but I’d like to see it happen.”

With a large resurgence of mechanical play in the last two years, players across the paintball community have flocked to these types of events and look forward to bring back a style of play that was somewhat forgotten.
