Black Hawk Down Scenario

Nestled on the outskirts of Forney, TX, the annual Black Hawk Down scenario stands alone as one of the last big games in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. This past weekend marks the 17th year of Official Paintball Games of Texas providing players with not only a fantastic venue, but a chance to relax and have fun in a family friendly environment. Luckily enough, myself and a select few PPS-SFO players had the opportunity to enjoy the festivities and gameplay throughout the weekend.
Based loosely off the events that occurred during Operation Gothic Serpent in late 1993; the scenario schedule broke the day into various missions as the Rangers and Militia players faced off against one another. From capturing objectives to rescuing pilots, both sides used a variety of tactics to varying effects throughout the day.
However, the events of the scenario did not reflect the same events that occurred in real life. Commanded by Kaitlyn Riggs and Trey Garrison, the Rangers proved to be too much for the Somali militia as they nudged out another victory this year.

Being my first year in attendance, I found that this event highly exceeded my expectations overall and is a must for anyone looking for a local scenario in North Texas. Along with an attentive referee presence, those at Official Paintball Games of Texas kept missions running smoothly and addressed issues quickly and effectively.
In terms of equipment for the event, I again used my Planet Eclipse EMEK as it proves to be one of the best “beater” guns on the market. In short, it just works – and when you’re face down crawling through the mud you don’t really want to drag your $1500.00 electronic marker around. Topped with a Dye R2 and using a Ninja 90ci w/ Powerhouse regulator, I couldn’t have asked for a better combination. As for paintballs, G.I. Sportz provided both Premium and Evil options - with some of the vilest pink fill I have encountered in a long while. However, both shot fantastic through the weekend and I had no issues whatsoever.

All in all, it was another great weekend for paintballers in Texas and I am optimistic for the next Black Hawk Down event in 2020. On another note, with the first United States X-Ball League (USXBL) getting closer this blog will be making a swing towards covering the tournament side of paintball more often. However, I am looking forward to the day where scenarios are back in full force in North Texas.
