Fun on the Run: DMZ

For the past few years, individuals playing at Fun on the Run Paintball Park may have noticed the prospects of a new field. Nestled between the bottom road and the field “Wooded”, the new addition of “DMZ” is finally here. With a vast network of evenly divided buildings between both sides, players will find that the once densely wooded area is now home to a new battlefield.
Roughly outlined as a rectangle, “DMZ” is cut into two large sections by a creek running through the center. This creek, while out of bounds, harbors much of the intense gameplay - as two large bridges create a path to the other team’s side. Inside these bridges are a network of rooms and windows to allow players to sneak through in an attempt to cross the creek. While the field does have significant elevation change in certain areas, no side has a clear advantage over the other.
This last weekend, myself and other PPS-SFO players, got the chance to play two trial games before the official opening on April 20, 2019.
“DMZ” proved to be much more than we expected, as the battle for bridge control was some of the fiercest fighting I have seen at Fun on the Run in a long time. With players funneling into the buildings surrounding the creek in the first portion of the game; teams must devote a large amount of firepower on holding the other team at bay. This building to building combat is highly reminiscent of how the field “District” plays, but with the addition of dense forest. In the future I fully expect players to find the key positions on the field due to the amount of cover available. “DMZ” will offer seasonal changes as the amount of foliage provides much of the concealment outside of the buildings. Personally, I feel that this will not be a detriment to play, with many structures being within quick running distance from one another.

That being said, there are still various opportunities to skirt around the edges of the field to play passively if need be. Also, younger and less experienced players have large buildings that are easily accessible at the start of the match.
Overall, “DMZ” is a great addition to Fun on the Run Paintball Park. With players able to enjoy tactical close quarters to distance woodsball – the potential for fantastic play is all there.
