PPS-SFO players were dealt contrasting finishes Feb. 16 at the Star Series “Cash Days” and National Collegiate Paintball Association (NCPA) Southern tournaments.

Featuring a fresh roster for the 2019 season, PPS-SFO line “Riot” competed in Division 5 of the Star Series “Cash Days”. While their performance overall left much to be desired, coach Brock Bohannon was adamant about the line’s potential in the future.

“They really fell on their faces,” Bohannon said. “The way they played at the event was nowhere near their potential as players and I hope that they can put it together like I know they can.”

Playing his first paintball tournament, Brian Wolfe was unhappy with their standing overall but ready to move forward and fine tune his own personal abilities.

“I know I have a ton still to learn and I can’t wait to get back out there,” Wolfe said. “The one area I really want to work on is shooting off the break. There were certain frustrations with the cold at this tournament, but this is somewhere I know I could improve on immensely.”

Along with his new goals, Wolfe was happy with the venue as well as the other teams that attended the event.

“The level of competition was right where I expected it to be. At no point did I feel like we didn’t stand a chance, or we were just rolling people,” Wolfe said.

While the weather played a large factor, as temperatures hung around the mid-40s most of the day, the facilities at Paintball Fit again provided a quality experience for players.

In contrast, the PPS-SFO players that attended the NCPA Southern Tournament had a much different experience playing with the University of North Texas (UNT).

Taking 1st and 3rd place at this event, UNT showed prowess in the collegiate ranks of tournament paintball. Currently in his junior year, Alfred Haumpy was happy with the showing of the three UNT lines at the event.

“As a whole we are moving in a positive direction walking away with a first and a third place,” Haumpy said. “Our new guys are starting to evolve into more rounded players that are able to understand and break down a field, while our older guys are still just as salty as ever trying to bring home another national championship.”

Moving forward, both teams look to the past and future as the 2019 season ramps up with the National X-Ball League’s first event fast approaching.
